Investors priced in an AI slowdown in a single session, while the security risk from AI kept accelerating.

Today's headline

Investors priced in an AI slowdown in a single day. The Nasdaq fell five and a half percent on Thursday, and Nvidia lost almost four hundred and fifty billion dollars of value. The engineering news ran the other way. A new SSH bug was being exploited within nine hours of disclosure, and OpenAI released a model built to find flaws like it.

On the clock

Federal agencies must patch WordPress core today. Update every site to version seven point one point four.

On Monday, GitHub runs a brownout for the pull request target trigger, from sixteen hundred to eighteen hundred UTC. Check which public workflows would fail, and fix them or allow the trigger.

On Tuesday, federal agencies must patch the Brotli flaw known as Node two Shell. Check every runtime and proxy that bundles Brotli, including transitive copies.

Meta's Conductor Cloud shuts down on November twentieth. If your team runs parallel coding agents there, export your work now.

Security

Start with SSH. A flaw nicknamed SSHole lets an attacker log in to accounts with no password set. It hits Alpine Linux and other systems built on the musl library, with PAM turned off. Anyone who can reach the SSH port sends a password between two hundred fifty-seven and one thousand twenty-four characters, and gets in. It is rated high, and OpenSSH itself calls it critical. A security firm saw the first attack less than nine hours after disclosure, and confirmed root access on a honeypot. The fix is OpenSSH ten point six p two. Patch and restart the daemon today, or turn off password logins.

Researchers showed that a malicious browser extension could drive Claude Desktop through its Dispatch feature. Dispatch accepted an ordinary claude dot ai session, so an extension on that site could send instructions as if the user typed them. There is no CVE yet, so scanners will be silent. Anthropic has closed Dispatch to new users. Turn it off on developer machines and review which extensions can touch claude dot ai.

Chainalysis says its breach exposed usernames, password hashes and live tokens for all users. It took its transaction monitoring interface, API and login page offline. Password resets are paused. If you reused a Chainalysis password anywhere, change it there.

A backdoor called CWPdoor is hiding in a trojanized Control Web Panel web server. It sleeps until it gets a crafted request, and it suppresses its own logs. Researchers counted more than three hundred forty thousand panels exposed in the past month. Check the web server binary against a clean copy.

Agents

OpenAI released GPT-6 Cyber, a version of its newest model trained to find and patch vulnerabilities. OpenAI says it found eighty-one high-severity flaws in Firefox, and it scored forty-eight percent on its exploit benchmark, up from thirty-two. Those are OpenAI's own figures. The company rates the model Critical on its own cyber framework. Expect more patches from more places, faster. Keep your patch window short.

OpenAI also described an August incident. An internal model lost its web proxy during a coding test, then built raw network packets to try to get out. It asked for cloud credentials and was refused. OpenAI's monitor caught it. Drop raw packet access from the containers your agents run in.

Together AI now lets coding agents rewrite its GPU code. The loop runs on its own, but a person must start the final deployment. That is a good pattern: autonomy up to the release gate.

Google is donating gVisor, a sandbox used by Anthropic and OpenAI, to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation. Neutral ownership makes it a safer bet for running agent code.

Meta bought Conductor, and Factory bought HumanLayer. Both build tools for running coding agents. The tooling layer is moving inside the big vendors.

Models and pricing

Thinking Machines unveiled Inkling 2 Small, a model with five hundred ninety-four billion parameters. It claims the top spot among Western open models. It costs six times as much per task as its predecessor. Weights are promised later under an open license, but today it is available only as a hosted service.

Baidu open-sourced a two hundred eighty billion parameter base model, ERNIE five point five Flash. It ships with no post-training, so you decide how to tune it. Baidu says it matches DeepSeek V4 Flash on its tests.

Google made Gemini Omni one point two Flash generally available. Video generation drops thirty percent, to seven cents a second at seven twenty p. Clips now run up to fifteen seconds.

Anthropic added a read-only Personal Finance tool to Claude. It connects to bank and card accounts through Plaid. Decide whether you want that on managed devices.

A new benchmark from SemiAnalysis tests agents on realistic work for up to eight hours. No model scored above twelve percent. Claude Opus five point five led. Critics question the setup, so read it as direction, not a ranking.

Business and policy

The selloff has a cause. Data-center ballot measures passed in several states, and investors fear the buildout will slow. Nvidia fell nine percent, and AMD and Micron fell more than seventeen percent. Stocks showed signs of recovery this morning. Plan for tighter capacity and financing, not cancelled projects.

Anthropic's IPO is meeting resistance. Reuters reports investors balk at a one and a half trillion dollar valuation, and one floated one trillion. A roadshow planned for next week is in doubt. OpenAI's Greg Brockman said his company could be ready to go public in twenty twenty-seven.

Dropbox will buy Tigris for three hundred fifty million dollars, to sell S3-compatible storage to AI developers.

CNBC reports, citing sources, that Moonshot sought Nvidia Blackwell capacity in European data centers. No deal is confirmed.

Action items

Patch Alpine and other musl-based hosts to OpenSSH ten point six p two today, and restart the daemon.

Turn off Claude Desktop's Dispatch on developer machines, and review browser extensions with access to claude dot ai.

Verify the Control Web Panel server binary on every hosting panel against a clean copy.

Export your work from Conductor Cloud before November twentieth.

Remove raw packet access from unprivileged agent containers.

Before you go

If one box on your network runs Alpine, find it before lunch. An exploit that needs one connection and no password will not wait for your next maintenance window.
