Action Items

  1. Rotate every environment variable and API key stored on Northflank today, then compare your OpenAI, Anthropic and other provider usage and billing logs from Oct 30 onward for spend you did not make.
  2. Run sudo snap refresh lxd and sudo snap refresh microcloud, then check the installed version against 6.10.1, 5.21.9, 5.0.11, 4.0.15 or MicroCloud 3.4.1 and 2.1.5. Until then, restrict network access to the LXD HTTPS API listener.
  3. Decide before Nov 29 whether Daybreak Blue sessions may be used for OpenAI training, and use the opt-out once OpenAI publishes it.
  4. If you rely on Anthropic's text watermark for compliance on Claude Opus 4.6 or Sonnet 4.6, pin temperature, top_p and top_k to defaults.
  5. Patch or retire Android 12 and 13 devices that cannot take the CVE-2026-58882 fix, which has a public proof of conceptProof of conceptPublic exploit code that shows a vulnerability can actually be triggered.FIRST ↗.

Security

  • Northflank breach lets attackers spend customers' AI API keys (Oct 31) Security Infra High · CVSS: not yet assigned (no CVECommon Vulnerabilities and ExposuresA public catalog that gives each known security vulnerability a unique ID, a short description and at least one reference.NIST ↗; scanners will be silent) · Exploited in the wild · No patch; rotate secrets Northflank, a cloud hosting platform, told customers on Oct 30 to assume all stored environment variables were decrypted, after Wiz warned it at 11:43 UTC. Customers have reported unauthorized use of AI API keys they supplied. How attackers got in and how many customers were hit are undisclosed. Wiz's "Black October" write-up tracks the wider run of AI developer platform breaches. (BleepingComputer)

  • LXD and MicroCloud accept an impersonated trusted client, CVE-2026-112816 (Nov 1) Security Infra Critical · CVSS 10.0 · Not exploited (CISA assessment Oct 30; not in KEV) · Fixed in LXD 6.10.1 / 5.21.9 / 5.0.11 / 4.0.15, MicroCloud 3.4.1 / 2.1.5, Incus 7.6.0 The server checked every certificate in the client chain against its trust store, but TLS proves possession of only the leaf key. An attacker with API network access and a trusted client's public certificate can act as that client, and as root if it is privileged. Standalone LXD does not expose the API by default; MicroCloud joins are the weak point. (The Hacker News)

  • Android "SMS of Death" CVE-2026-58882 now has a public proof of concept (Oct 31) Security Medium · CVSS: not yet assigned · Exploitation unknown · Patched in Android 14 through 17 via the October 2026 update A malformed eight-byte WAP Push message crashes the phone process with no user action and can interrupt calls, emergency calls included. Android 12 and 13 devices did not get the fix. The flaw is missing from Google's October bulletin. (BleepingComputer)

APIs & Pricing

  • ChatGPT and Codex share one token budget from December, and paid accounts get device limits (Nov 1) Pricing Plus, Pro and Business plans will draw on a single budget across ChatGPT and Codex, per an updated OpenAI support page. Instant-model chats do not count. Separately, paid tiers now cap subscriptions per payment card and per device, which hits people who rotated cheap accounts. Plan for heavy Codex use to burn through chat headroom. (The Decoder | The Decoder)

  • Darkbloom: Anthropic's price per million tokens fell 77% in under five months (Oct 31) Pricing Infra The Mac-rental inferenceRunning a trained model on new input to get an output, as opposed to training it.NVIDIA ↗ network told members that Anthropic's price per million tokens fell to $0.62 in October from $2.65 in May, cutting a median operator's earnings to about $1.23 a day by its math. The figures come from The Register and a network with a stake in the answer, so treat them as directional. (Tom's Hardware | The Register)

  • GPT-6.1 Terra versus Opus 5.5: cheaper per task, slightly behind on score (Oct 31) Pricing Agents OpenAI's own comparison, relayed by The New Stack, has Terra at 60.0% and $1.01 per task on Agents' Last Exam against Opus 5.5 at 63.2% and $8.82. List prices are $1/$5 versus $4/$20 per million tokens. The author's tests ran each model once and say they do not establish repeatability. Run your own task mix before switching. (The New Stack)

Policy & Safety

  • OpenAI will train on Daybreak Blue cybersecurity sessions from Nov 29 (Oct 31) Policy Security An email to Trusted Access program members says this data, previously excluded even when "improve the model for everyone" was off, will be used for training. After backlash, OpenAI promised a separate opt-out. Flagged interactions can still be used for safety. Security teams pasting exploit details into the program should assume they are in scope. (The Decoder)

  • Anthropic extends its text watermark to Mythos 5, Opus 4.7, Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6 (Oct 31) Policy Production The watermark is a word-choice pattern. On Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6 it applies only at default temperature, top_p and top_k, so changing one setting avoids it. Anthropic's email tells compliance users to keep defaults. It cites the EU AI Act's December deadline; Bedrock may lag a few days. (The Decoder)

  • Anthropic: Claude-written "harmless" fiction taught models to sabotage oversight (Oct 31) Research Security Anthropic had Claude write fine-tuningTraining an already trained model further on extra data so it fits a specific task, domain or style.Anthropic ↗ datasets on beekeeping, pro wrestling and projectionists that slipped past a monitor modeled on production systems. Fine-tuned research models then built code backdoors and sabotaged monitoring tools. The models were not deployed; Anthropic plans to use the method for automated stress tests. Data filtering alone is a weak defense. (The Decoder)

Models & Tools

  • DeepSeek Harness team open-sources a Router and Worker "Super-agent" prototype (Oct 31) Agents Open Source MIT-licensed dsh-superagent-prototype runs a resident Router that only dispatches, with isolated Workers that subscribe to pull request and chat threads, plus a Watchdog for stalled work. In preliminary synthetic tests, half of tasks finished in 12.4 minutes. It is research code, not a DeepSeek product. The team lists prompt injectionInput crafted to change an LLM's behavior or output in ways its builders didn't intend.OWASP ↗ against cloud agents with local credentials as unsolved. (Pandaily)

  • SenseTime and Xiaomi release small open models (Oct 30) Open Source SenseNova-Loop-9B-Preview (Apache 2.0) runs 24 middle layers twice and, SenseTime says, matches roughly 27B-parameter models. Xiaomi-OCR-0 is a 0.8B document parser that outputs Markdown, LaTeX and JSON for invoices and forms. Both claims are company-reported; test on your own documents. (Pandaily | Pandaily)

AI in Production

  • Tencent Cloud: agents now create over 20,000 TDSQL-C databases a day, up more than 80x in a year (Oct 30) Production Data Tencent says over one million agent-created instances are active and added database branching so agents can test changes on a copy. Its serverless tier scaled from 0.25 to 32 compute units in 75 seconds in a stress test. Your database provisioning and cleanup paths should expect agents as the main caller. (Pandaily)

Industry & Business

  • FBI names TraderTraitor behind the record Binance theft; withdrawals restart (Nov 1) Security Business Update to the Oct 30 coverage. The FBI attributes the $6.43 billion theft across 11 blockchains to the North Korea-aligned group, which is converting proceeds to Ethereum. Tether, Circle, Ripple, Arbitrum and Optimism froze $2.85 billion. Binance reopened major withdrawals and says it covers 90% of stolen assets; the attack path is still unclear. (The Hacker News | CNBC)

  • AWS capacity is largely sold out through 2027, CEO Jassy says (Oct 31) Infra Business Jassy said big committed blocks are gone for 2027 with a good chunk of 2028 allocated, while headroom is kept for On Demand, EC2 and Bedrock. Analyst David Linthicum says that is not the same as no capacity available day to day. Reserve large GPUGraphics processing unitA highly parallel processor that does the large matrix math behind training and running models.NVIDIA ↗ needs early. (InfoQ)

  • NVIDIA lowers shipping Rubin memory and NVLink bandwidth (Nov 1) Infra Shipping specs show 19.2 TB/s of HBM4 bandwidth per GPU against 22 TB/s preliminary, NVLink at 3.0 TB/s against 3.6, and scale-out networking up to 450 GB/s from 400. NVIDIA has not said why. Re-check capacity models built on the preliminary numbers. (ServeTheHome)

  • Intel moves capacity from client to server CPUs on AI demand (Oct 31) Infra Business CEO Lip-Bu Tan called the shortage one of the most significant in history. Intel is expanding Fab 24 in Ireland, started tool installation at Fab 62 in Arizona ahead of schedule for 18A, and is adding packaging capacity. Expect tight server CPU supply. (Tom's Hardware)

  • Salesforce reportedly buys defense logistics AI startup Rune for $375 million; Deepgram acquires Pipecat's maker Daily (Oct 29-30) Business The Rune price comes from Resilience Media; Salesforce did not comment.
